Intended Audience
This FREC 3 course is aimed at learners who wish to work or volunteer as a first responder.
Pre-requisites
- Be 17 years or older
- Sufficient English speaking and literacy skills
- Good numeracy skills
- Proof of ID & residency
Course Overview
The First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3) course is designed to advance first aiders to a level where they can provide immediate life support to a patient before the arrival of emergency services. Learners who take this course will gain the knowledge, skills and competence needed to deal with a wide range of pre-hospital care emergencies, such as managing a patient’s airways, catastrophic bleeding, fractures and medical emergencies.
Course Syllabus
Includes:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- Child and Infant BLS
- Emergency oxygen administration
- Bag Valve Mask (BVM) and pocket mask
- Trauma and catastrophic bleeding
- Head and spinal injuries
- Shock and circulation
- Sudden poisoning
- Burns and scalds
- Airway management
- Environmental exposure
- Responding to life-threatening medical conditions
Assessment Term
6x practical assessments/skills tests, 3x theory assessments (multiple choice question papers), 1x invigilated exam
